Vinho Verde in a nutshell: light, slightly sparkling, fragrant and zingy, low alcohol, and (best of all) cheap. The name means "green wine" (as in age, not color or environmental leanings), and the younger the better. Instead of a vintage, Vinho Verde has a "born on" date on the label a la Budweiser. Vinho Verde's quality is similar across the board, so don't kill yourself trying to find a specific brand. It's all good. That said, we like the Broadbent, which has a lovely ripe peach and apricot bouquet but tastes as light and fresh as lemon-flavored mineral water with a splash of spirit.
